Working with Shopping Lists (Import/Export) in Auctionator
One of the best new features added to Auctionator recently (May 2011) is the ability to import and export shopping lists (buy lists) as simple, editable text files. It’s dead simple now to share carefully researched shopping lists and maintain backup copies (or even swap sets) of your own lists.
Here’s a quick how-to for importing a prepared shopping list into your installation of Auctionator. You are already beginning to find shopping lists to work with in the MGB members’ area, and I will be adding more as quickly as I can get them made up and tested.
How to import formatted text files into Auctionator as Shopping Lists
Buy Tab –> Options –> Shopping Lists
- click “Import”
- copy the formatted text file (select-all, then copy)
- paste complete text into the import box
- click “Import”, then “Okay”
That’s all there is to it!
Note that the list name at the top of the file will be used to create a new shopping list. If there is an existing shopping list with the same name, you will be prompted to cancel the import, or overwrite the existing shopping list with the new data.

Hi Jon –
Just now catching up with all the great lists you posted!
When I watch your video and look at the above screen shot, I see that you have what appears to be embedded lists within larger categories. How do you do that?
e.g. Glyphs
—Glyph/Death Knight
—Glyph/Mage, etc.
I know this is something simple, but what I keep getting with my imports is a new list not under my Glyph category. Way too many to display within the dropdown properly.
I am NOT editing your file at all (i.e. not removing the ***at the beginning of each import.)
Can you provide a bit more detail on this for the brain dead?
-Thanks!
Hi Rivinia -
The category searches are formed using Auctionator’s advanced search feature (the little plus sign beside the Search button when you are in the Buy page). There are drop-down menus to create category searches, and the resulting search can be saved to a shopping list. That’s how I made the category searches in the import files, and you can do the same for your own advanced searches in your own custom buy lists.
Hey Same question as Jeffrey, cant find the lists anywhere. I did find Amalgams lists but they are set up differently for the download… any help would be great. Maybe I just missed a link or something?
I will put a link to the shopping lists page right now.
Help, I know this is probably a question for the auctioneer add on, but how do you get the buy tab, when click on the auctioneer, get the window for the auctions but no buy tab???
thanks
The buy tab is in Auctionator which is a second add-on … make sure you have both Auctioneer and Auctionator loaded.
Hello,
Sry if this is stupid questionbut where can i find the shopping list .txt files, cant seem to find them anywhere.
Jeffrey
WOW, this is fantastic, Jon! It was so fast to make my new Buy lists for glyphs. Thanks to you and to Rannegirl for taking the time to make these lists for us. I greatly appreciate the time you’ve saved me
NB. I broke the Ethereal and Ink of the Sea into 2 buy lists each, since they contained more than 50 items.

Hey David, have you tried opening the Auctionator list and using CNTRL-P ?
Only idea I came up with. Good luck.
Hello,
I unzip the text into notepad, copy it but can find no way further. Right or left clicking the mouse in “Import” produces no results at all. Any ideas welcome please.
Regards, David
Place your cursor in the import box (left click in the window) and press Ctrl-V (the standard Windows command for paste), that will paste the copied text into the window. Then follow the rest of Jon’s instructions.
Hey David, I’ve added a video demo, it may help if you’re still having problems. I’ve also tested Auctionator in-game now that Patch 4.2 is live, and it’s working fine (including these Shopping List management functions).
