Patch 4.1 went live on WoW servers on Tuesday April 26. This wasn’t a major event from the gold-making point of view, although on some servers it is quite possible to make good profits from temporary increased demand for a few crafted items. The big deal about this patch is really the introduction of new Heroic dungeons, and that’s what is driving the relatively modest economy impacts.

Key points about Patch 4.1…
Winners:
- Inferno Ruby: short-term increase in demand, both raw and cut
- Spellthread : short-term increase in demand, level 85 varieties (Powerful Enchanted Spellthread, Powerful Ghostly Spellthread)
- Leg Armor: short-term increase in demand, level 85 varieties (Charscale Leg Armor, Dragonscale Leg Armor)
- Glyph of Frost Armor: new, in demand (Northrend Inscription Research)
- Volatiles: in play… but could be going either way!
- Pets: strong increase in demand and prices, may be sustained (especially Winterspring Cub from Vendor in Everlook)
- Cata Ores (Elementium, Obsidium, Pyrite): much speculation, right now the demand is strong
Losers:
- Maelstrom Crystal: way down, and they will stay down
- Cata Ores: they will be dropping (delayed reaction)
- Volatiles: you may see strength now, it will fade and prices will drop
- Spellthread and Leg Armor: will fade
