Before I get into specific recommendations of the items to key in on for the Crafting Crush method here, I want to talk a bit about pricing and give you a formula for setting the price points that you want to aim for in buying before December 7th and in selling once Cataclysm launches. So this is the Crush Trading Pricing Formula.
The buy prices need to be based from an existing reference point. I’m going to suggest that if you’re using Auctioneer, for instance – the very common tool that most people who are active in the Auction House are using to scan and keep track of pricing in the Auction House – aim to use the market price that Auctioneer gives you and aim to buy now – any time between now and December 7th, when Cataclysm will launch – buy at 75% or less of that current market price. Now this assumes you’ve got Auctioneer data that goes back at least a couple of months.
And then the selling part of the formula, remember that you need to stick with the peak pricing cycles that I’m discussing for each item; so the short-term, medium-term, and long-term expectations for when the peak prices for each item are going to hit, and roughly speaking it’s according to the item level and where it falls in the cycle of skilling up a profession. What you’re going to aim for is that during those peak pricing periods you should be able to sell for anywhere from 2x to 5x this same market price we’re talking about, the current established market price for your server.

The formula I want you to keep in mind is to buy at 75% of recent standard pricing for the item, and aim to sell at at least 2x the current price (so you’re already making more than double your money back, right?). For some of the best, highest profit margin items that I’m going to be describing here for you, you may get as much as 5x the price; so, of course, you’re going to be getting a really good return on your investment of funds up front when that happens.
