Setup: The Dalaran Connection – Horde
This step is no longer an automatic recommendation. Cataclysm has arrived, and the city portals from Dalaran have been removed.
It’s still a good idea to re-locate your low-level AH toons to another city, once you have your operation fully developed, and you have an idea of what advantages you’d like to have nearby for convenient access. Consider the vendors you want to buy from for limited supply pipelines, how crowded is the city and auction house, and whether or not the auctioneers in your starter city (Stormwind, Undercity etc) are killed off frequently by the opposing faction.
I’m still pondering the ideal location for my own auction house toons, and I think I’ll eventually recommend Shattrath as a prime location. But you should also consider simply moving around from time to time, buying ports from Mages just as I demonstrate in this video for getting to Dalaran.

So obviously this isn’t needed anymore. Is there anything that replaces it yet?
With the portals removed from Shattrath/Dalaran this video is pretty much obsolete isn’t it ?
It’s not obsolete, no. You should still consider moving to a different city after you have your basic operation and low-level alts established. Dalaran may not be the best choice any more, since it doesn’t have the advantage of city portals. See the introduction I have added to the video (top of this page).
Id suggest to use more than one toon per faction. So you start as an undead. Once you have enough gold to get started, create a secondary toon (tauren/troll/orc,), mail some coins and use it as a deliver toon.
This way you can travel between cities with those two toons, zep/fp org-tb. and orb of translocation for uc/silvermoon traveling.
For alliance it could be human to travel between stormwind-ironforge, and a draenei that travels between the exodar and darnassus via the boats.
This is far from optimal because it takes time, but on the other hand it saves a lot of gold.
